The March 12 update of Australia's federal privacy laws brought a broad range of new rights for consumers as well as responsibilities for private and public organisations and their CSOs. It also gave the regulator the power to impose fines of up to $A1.7m. But  backlog of cases is already piling up and it's becoming clear that the new privacy regime is putting new burdens on all sides. The cover story in this issue will look at the new law three months on from its introduction.

Readers will learn how much has actually changed – and whether simply tightening regulations is enough to ensure privacy online.
