ABSTRACT:
Increasing numbers of reports involving loss or theft of Windows-based devices demands a new approach to protecting information assets. Up until now, organizations have had only two encryption choices: count on an end user to store a file in a special folder to ensure the file is encrypted, or encrypt the entire hard drive (Full Disk Encryption, or FDE). However, a vast amount of data on a notebook or desktop hard drive does not contain sensitive information, such as operating system and application program files. So, while FDE initially may seem to be the most secure and thorough technology, companies have found that it poses significant manageability, recovery, security and usability challenges. This paper presents how a new encryption technology secures vital, sensitive information stored on Windows Notebook PCs, tablet PCs and desktops, avoiding these issues associated with FDE.
